   Continue northeast past the Whittier tide station. Portage Glacier drainage visible north.

   Enter Port Wells. Begin bearing north-northwest toward Pigot Point.

   Pass west of Pigot Point into upper Port Wells. Open water briefly — assess conditions.

   Cross upper Port Wells bearing northwest toward Culross Island. Watch for whale activity.

   Pass south tip of Culross Island. Enter the lee of the island — protected water begins here.

   Enter the protected waters of Culross Passage between Culross Island and the mainland.

   Proceed north through the passage. Outstanding humpback whale habitat — keep lookout.

    Arrive at prime anchorage zone. Anchor in 25–60 ft over soft mud. Excellent holding. Kelp beds on east side.
